excerpt

Life implies health and illness. That’s why patience is fundamental. Without it, no one can be happy or long-lived. Patience, though never easy, can be achieved. It results from acceptance of reality and the relativization of the problem, through a  particular awareness – the “awareness of impermanence” that Buddhists emphasize. They know that neither good nor evil is permanent. Or, more simply, that everything passes.

synopsis

Quem ama escuta (To Love Is to Listen) brings together the best columns published on the web site Veja.com. In them, Betty Milan answers questions addressed to her. From a woman who’s the lover of a man already in a relationship and can’t tolerate the triangle. From a young woman who has sex thinking about her brother. From the gay man who seeks out prostitutes to convince himself he’s not gay… It deals with a new emotional education. It obliges the reader to reflect in an unprejudiced fashion about the dramas of life and confront himself. According to the author, to be free we need to decipher the enigmas of the unconscious, to analyze the past in order to know about the present and the future.
