excerpt

I have tried to make the word freedom resonate, honoring the particularity of each story and promoting the difference of each reader.

synopsis

One woman is desperate because her husband refuses to be violent in bed. Another, because she loves a man who’s “a dog.” A third is remorseful for having felt pleasure when she was raped. A young single man doesn’t like gays but only has sex with men. Another, already married, is ashamed because he exhibits his wife dressed as a call girl. All are flesh and blood and all are characters in the universal drama of self-destruction. A drama that this book unveils, involving the reader and offering new life alternatives. Fale com ela is a compilation of Betty Milan’s columns published in Folha de S. Paulo, a newspaper to which she contributed for 25 years. The text can be read as a novel or as a new emotional education.

history

The first edition of Fale com ela appeared in March 2007, with book launchings in São Paulo at the Livraria Cultura on March 26, 2007, and in Rio de Janeiro at the Livraria Travessa on April 19, 2007. The work generated significant press coverage, especially in the magazine Veja, which ran a profile of the author in the April 4, 2007, issue. It was then that the magazine invited Betty Milan to write the Consultório Sentimental column on the Veja.com site. Soon after the launching, the book had a second printing.
